The Story

New farms are needed in Kenya while the need for food in Turkana continues. The majority of families have a minimally adequate diet. Children under the age of five are most vulnerable to malnutrition.

Immediate food relief is needed to save families and children.

A mother of five says that her children eat one meal a day at best. As there is not enough food to go around, priority is given to the children and elderly. Her eldest son has been suffering from malnutrition for several months. The 12-year-old is weak and cannot walk or even stand alone. She says she has never experienced conditions as bad as this drought before.

"Without urgent intervention, food insecurity and malnutrition will worsen, placing additional strain on vulnerable communities." IFRC

Overall, the percentage of households experiencing ‘crisis to emergency’ food insecurity remains pronounced. Most at-risk children don't die of starvation, they die from the consequences of severe malnutrition.

You can provide immediate relief to these families along with farms in areas where they can be sustained.

Background

The house church network in Kenya has seen thousands of people baptized and are committed to spiritual transformation through disciple-making movements.

With your help, this team has planted farms in many areas to provide sustainable food. But this year, in the desert region of Turkana, families need immediate relief just to survive. You can help families to survive and also see new farms planted.

Together, we're not just feeding stomachs, we're feeding families with hope.

How did the situation of hunger in East Africa get like this?

Four consecutive years of failed rainy seasons have created unprecedented water shortages. Livestock have endured a long drought and the last rainfall has been insufficient for them to recover.

"During periods of drought, children, women and the elderly remain at home without access to basic services, such as food and water. In this region, milk is a necessity or a basic food item. For children, it is particularly important for growth and development. But without livestock, there is no milk and people fall into malnutrition."
