Looking Ahead

Our primary mission (Appleseed vision) that God has spoken clearly to us is to 'empower church planters to multiply disciples, churches and leaders.' With that in mind, the following God-opportunities seem to be coming together this Spring:
  • Storytelling training for 48 leader/trainers from five countries. Reaching and discipling people in Africa is often limited by the lack of literacy. By providing our key trainers with specialty training in using storytelling to make disciples, they will be able to reach further among the non-literates than ever before. Scripture in Use is the organization providing this specialized training and we are excited to partner with them.
  • We plan to meet with new leaders from new regions that have been reached out to by our existing teams. Leaders from the remote part of Northern Uganda and Southern Sudan will meet with us while we are in Kampala for the above-mentioned training. New leaders from the more-primitive Pokot tribe of Northern Kenya will join us for a first-ever training while we are in Kenya. Finally, we will fly to Malawi where the Congolese team has been sending their own missionaries to raise up new teams. We are very enthused about each of these new regions especially recognizing that our current teams have taken their own initiative to reach further afield.

Our secondary (but related) mission involves empowering the poor that are being reached. As such we will be checking in on the following projects:

  • We will visit the school/orphanage in Kenya which is struggling to meet the needs of its growing high school. This is a good problem but the needs never end as these vulnerable children grow older and the need to prepare them for adulthood looms.
  • We will be delivering more sanitary pads for the girls of the school (and others) which plays a huge role in these young women obtaining an excellent education.
  • We will visit some of the new house church farms that have been planted in Kenya to support families and widows there. We are excited to see this project help families and also further the movement of the Gospel.
  • We are NOT yet able to get into Burundi because of the political turmoil there. We are excited about the way that the water filters project is enabling them to reach many new communities. But we long to get in there, personally, to see this progress!
  • We will be in Rwanda to visit the sewing project there in the fall. We have been encouraged by the progress of the young women receiving training.

Prayers and input are always appreciated.

AND, thank you for being there with us in every way!

Whilst I well appreciate the constraints that illiteracy presents to disciples both in scripture reading & vulnerability in everyday life through being cheated & deceived by others, nevertheless we can praise God for the enormous strides in technology and the availability of audio scriptures and other teaching materials on 'Megavoice' players. Discovery Bible Studies can also be participated in using such players and materials, with associated introductory training which includes the understanding that the most important objective is for everyone to 'Hear God personally through them, and to obey'?
