I am often asked why the spiritual climate in Africa seems more alive than here in the West. One reason that stands out is what I perceive as simple, childlike faith.
Don’t misunderstand. I am not saying that our friends in Africa are simple or childlike in their intellect or understanding. That would be a ridiculous statement. But I am suggesting that they have an uncanny confidence that if God says it, they can take Him at His word.
While I sometimes struggle with putting my confidence in science, human reasoning, or technology, my African friends continually show me why childlike faith is surely more precious than gold:
- It brings deep comfort despite hardships.
- It motivates them to step into eternal purposes, letting God use them daily to share His good news in word and action.
- It gives them hope to make changes rather than being victims of circumstances.

It gives them courage to pray for the impossible and believe for the implausible thus letting God glorify His own name.
I pray that we would re-discover the power and value of simple, childlike faith.
