D.R. Congo Women Want to Show the World How They've Changed

March 14, 2012

The women came to the director of our Women in Congo ministry and asked if they could march together, as a group, in the International Women's Day event on March 8.

I get tingles up my arm thinking about this.

These women have each come from the most hopeless, depressed, and oppressed situations.  Many were sexually used or abused, all had given up hope in themselves and for their families.  But their lives have changed and they wanted to tell others that it's possible--that God can lift the destitute and sit the lowliest in high places.

The director of this ministry, Angel, did not initiate this idea.  Rather, the women themselves came to her and said, "We want others to know that they can find hope; that they can change!"

So... on March 8, during the Women's Day march in D.R. Congo... they held their heads high and did just that!

A Child Dies of Malaria Every 30 Seconds in Africa

September 26, 2011

MalariaChild260Malaria has killed more people than all wars combined, and continues to be one of the greatest public health challenges facing humans today.

“I remember looking into the drooping eyes of the young girl with malaria and recognizing that sickly look that all children have when they are suffering.  I was so glad to learn that he recovered, but many DON’T!”

You may have participated in our online campaign (sponsored by Moolala) to raise funds to provide mosquito nets to dozens of our children in Kenya.  These will be life-saving for many!  Thank you so much.  As the nets are purchased and distributed we will keep you posted.

You Can Travel With Us!
Poland in October: Roger’s book on Simple/House Church was translated into Polish by some new friends.  Now they have invited us to come encourage their group to plant new churches in this East European country.

“In Poland young people and students, while sceptical of organized religion, are receptive to the good news of Jesus.”

Pray with us for this emerging group of believers with a heart to see their nation transformed.

Surprised by His Faithfulness

January 29, 2011

I must confess that I am still often surprised by God’s faithfulness even though it’s who He is at the core.  Since you have begun praying with us last month for John, in Kenya, and Angel, in DR Congo, we have seen many touched in such profound ways:

Mama Giselle and AngleGiselle, from the Congo, was deserted by her husband and had no way to support her children.  She allowed herself to be used by men just so that they would feed her children.  She describes her life as marked by “suffering” for the past 13 years and the question on her heart as been, “Can God forgive me for this?"

As Angel (pictured left) reached out to Giselle through this past month’s training, Giselle discovered a forgiving God along with practical help in farming and small business that has given her the ability to care for the needs of her own family.  She has also found the ability… to smile!

John, training leaders in Kenya, reports, “Immediately after the training, we opened a new house church in one of the areas with some of those who came to the training.” He also said: “We count this training a successful one because we expected 50 leaders but we had more than 100 who attended. Glory be to God who helped us do that. It was not in our own strength but it was God’s strength. Your prayers have been so important!”

New Congolese Churches Already Sending Missionaries

November 12, 2009

100_4727 Since our conference in September, 22 new church planters have started simple churches. Even more exciting is the leaders who are being drawn to go to new areas as missionaries.

Stephen (our Congolese team leader) tells the story of one leader who has stepped out in faith to go to another city as a missionary:

Willy Wilonja is one of the leaders that has been working with me. Last week we were in prayer as a leadership team, and Willy told us that God is sending him to Kigali to start house churches! We kept quiet as we did not have financial support to cover his expenses for this.

In the  evening I called on him at his home, and we prayed over this again. I asked him: Do you still feel the same way? He answered that God definitely wants him to go there. I told him that I did not have support to give him for this, but that I could contribute $35 toward his transportation. He thanked me very much and then said, "Thank God! I already had $100 so this will provide me with everything I need to get there!"

So yesterday he phoned to tell me that He arrived well!

For me, this is the accomplishment of the prophecy that you [Roger] said over us while you were here: "From this team we shall see missionaries arising, and going to neigboring cities, countries..."
