Church Planting Movements

Your Dreams, Imagination, and Faith

January 26, 2012

Kingdom-focused dreams are a great starting point for faith.

I was recently asked, “What can you imagine God accomplishing through you and the community of people He has gathered around you?”

Awesome question.  It gets me dreaming big for God which, I believe, He wants all of us  to do.

Church Planting Movements Update

December 27, 2011

One network of churches in Kenya set a goal of 2,000 new baptisms for 2011.  They missed the mark, baptizing 'only' 720 people.  Undaunted, and knowing that God wanted to set free many people living in the oppression of victimization and poverty, they set their new goal for 2012: 4,000.  They have learned some lessons and believe they should aim high!

Training the New Ugandan Team

May 29, 2011

Then the Ugandans arrived.  There are 20 of them, most of them already doing church planting.  Henry who came to a training a year ago has brought up these 20 who are now going out and starting churches.  They are here now for more intense training from not only Roger, but Dawson’s team as well.  One woman became a Believer which is a miracle in itself.  Her entire community is M**lim, but she is still not intimidated or discouraged but going out spreading the gospel anywhere and everywhere she can.  Henry is the sweetest, most humble, precious man imaginable.  Some of these people, even if with the language barrier, exude the Holy Spirit and His power and presence to such a degree it’s unbelievable.  Just to be in their presence is very, very humbling.  Usually they are in dirty, dusty, torn, and often threadbare clothes, even if it is a suit or collared dress shirt, and they are thin from limited food.  Still, their faces and demeanor testify loudly to the true men and women of honor and wealth they truly are.

Am I Willing to Pay the Price?

April 1, 2010

Map_SoutheastAsia_Child Pastor C, in South Asia where I just returned from, came home recently to find two oil cans in front of his house.  This was a clear and brazen message being sent to him.  The message was this: “We could have just as easily burned down your house; and we could still do so at any time.”  Since there have been recent church bombings in this area, this was no idle threat and C knew it.

But the comment he made to me was this: “I have to keep asking myself this question: am I willing to pay the price to follow Jesus?”  His point was clear.  He would follow wherever Jesus leads him regardless of the cost.

I wrote of this incident in our travel blog because it has caused me to consider this question personally.  I have reflected on just how singular my focus really is on following Jesus alone.

What Happens in Three Days of Training?

February 28, 2010

What happens in three days of training?  It is impossible to describe all of the dynamics that take place as relationships are built, vision is extracted from the team, principles of church planting movements are taught and discovered through teaching, sharing, and case study exploration, team issues are dealt with, and personal issues often come to the forefront.

But just to provide a glimpse into one part of the outcome, here is a list that the team in Southern Mexico came up with that they intend to apply in order to produce greater fruitfulness in church planting:
